for the love of blur

Good evening!!!  Hope you had a fantastic Christmas (if you celebrate it!) with your families and friends.   It's 6:45pm.  I woke up at 11am (I never do that!) and all I want to do is sleep some more.  I guess the past few weeks of running around to prepare for Christmas, helping my mother with her preparations as well, the ice storm, and throwing my sister's baby into the mix, really tired me out.  It's probably a good thing that I have some time off from work!   Anyway, the tall boy bought me a new toy for my camera. Its a fun little lens, nothing too crazy, but it creates crazy amounts of blur, and you can place the blur where you want it.  I am in love with it!  It's obviously not going to be that one lens that I use all the time, but I'm definitely going to add it to my bag.  Its so much fun to use.  And I love creating blur.

Hope you enjoy the weekend!  See you next week!

my phone's Christmasy eye *94*

Tomorrow is Christmas Eve! I'm so excited!  The most wonderful time of year is officially here! Its been a crazy week, with my sister having the baby and the crazy ice storm of the century, all while finalizing preparations for Christmas!  I barely got a chance to take any photos of my decorations with my camera, so the iPhone ones will have to do.  So this edition of my phone's eye includes our annual christmas tree hunt, lunch/brunch/dinner dates, a shopping date with the tall boy, the Christmas Market at the Distillery District, some decorations around my house, gift wrapping and cookie baking.

I just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and festive season.  Hopefully you get to spend lots of time with your families.  Stay safe and be merry!

P.S.  I just realized I used the picture of the holly wreath twice! I guess i like it that much! oops!

welcome to the world, baby

Ok, its time to be serious.  I'm skipping the usual Thursday "iPhone" post for something very important to me.  My sister (whom you've seen many times on this blog) had her baby boy yesterday.  9 months goes by so slowly. It felt like she was pregnant for forever.  When she asked me if I could be in the delivery room with her, I was so honoured.  And I never realized how much of a huge deal that was until it all happened.  My sister had to have a cesarian, and I was so amazed by the whole thing.  And when they finally lifted the baby out and above the curtain for her to see him for the first time, I couldn't help myself but to feel overcome with emotion.  To see my sister, finally become a mother and for her to see her son for the first time, well I don't think there's anything more special than that.  The whole family has waited for this baby boy for a long time, and he truly is a gift from God.  When I think back on yesterday, I can't get this image out of my head.  I felt so blessed and honoured to have been a part of the whole thing.  I've never seen anything more beautiful in my entire life.  I'm going to love this little guy so much.

Side note: I was super nervous to take this photo. SO many things were going through my head. Is my phone going to die (like it always does)?  What if its blurry and the moment is lost?  What if there's too much light on the baby and he's just one big bright light? Gah! In the end, I think it turned out perfectly! It's definitely my favourite picture.  He's an angel.

Ok, sorry to be so serious!  Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

christmas marketing

Hi friends! Hope you had a great Monday and an even better weekend!  The tall boy and I spent this weekend Christmasing.  Thats, right, I made up my own word.  We finished almost all our Christmas gift shopping, cut down our tree, wrapped all the presents (well, that was mostly just me), helped my (super pregnant and ready to go) sister pick her tree, baked 4 batches of pecan cookies (again, mostly me), and decorated the tree yesterday.  However, yesterday started off with brunching and the Christmas Market at the Distillery District.  I love this tradition of ours.  And I love the Christmas Market.  I would love to experience the real Christmas Markets in Europe, but don't know how I feel about the cold.  Granted it was freezing, but all the more reason to pop into stores, peruse, and grab some hot chocolate.  And instead of dragging around my normal lens, I decided to take a prime lens.  I love it, and I love that it makes me step back and be more creative.  Anyway, here are the photos of the Christmas Market.   And here are the ones from last year.    Looks like I have to go back again in the evening!

Enjoy your week!

P.S.  how cute are those two little old ladies taking photos.  I like to think that I will be like that :)

my phone's eye *93*

HI!  This week's edition of the iPhone update includes: a retirement party at Canoe restaurant (awesome view of Toronto!), a blizzard that came out of nowhere, sunny clear skies, lazy saturday afternoons, a mirror action shot in an ornament, my chalkboard art, a hot chocolate while Christmas card writing, a knitting date with a good friend, a sunset, and caramelizing onions.
I'm super excited about this weekend! I have lots of Christmas activities in store! Hope you have a great weekend.

that famous sunset...

Oia.  That's where the entire population of Santorini flocks to just before the sunset, because it is such a spectacular event.  Not only is the town stunningly beautiful, but as the sun sets all the buildings start turning a beautiful orange and pink colour.  The foot paths and cafes are all packed with people trying to get the best view.  And there's probably about 3 proposals per night.  We showed up early to ensure we got a good view.  Like, two hours too early. All I can say is wow the time goes by slowly when you're waiting for the sun to set!   I had a great seat on a ledge (so safe), and I was not squashed by any tourists.   A young guy asked my husband if he could "take a picture" (aka video tape) him and his girlfriend, as he was going to surprise her with a proposal.  She was so shocked, she said yes and it was super cute (that's the couple in the second last photo!).  It was also pretty cool to see the sun and the moon so close to each other!  Anyway, if you find yourself in Santorini, you must see the sunset at least once!  I'm such a sucker for sunsets!
